NOT YOUR WORLD MUSIC –
Dimitri della Faille on noise in South East Asia15 August 2016 (Monday) | 10am | Abelardo Hall, UP College of Music
Dimitri della Faille, PhD, presents some of the research that went into “Not Your World Music: Noise in South East Asia (Art, Politics, Identity, Gender and Global Capitalism)”, the first major publication on noise, electroacoustic, industrial, experimental music and sound art in the ASEAN countries (including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar/Burma, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam).
Written and edited by Cedrik Fermont and Dr. della Faille, the book includes historical, political and sociological essays, exclusive interviews with artists and organizers, as well as an extensive bibliography and discography. The book is also a manifesto against stereotypes and censure, especially when it comes to colonialism, ethnocentrism, male-centered perspectives and sexism. It aims to empower an independent, proud and strong scene. The book and its accompanying anthology CD will be officially released in early September 2016.
